Svetlana is a member of the Nanai tribe, an indigenius group of about 2,000 people who live in a remote region of the Russian Far East and Northern China. Her traditional hand embroidered tribal attire includes the garment she is wearing at left.

Svetlana studied fashion design and garment fabrication at the Institute for Design in Russia. She later worked in clothing factories and was responsible for transforming artists' dress designs into patterns to be used in production. She moved to the United States in 1999 and opened her business in Yarmouth, Maine.
